Hi, I’m Johanna, founder and jewellery designer at Serendipity.

After graduating in jewellery design, I began creating pieces that combine meaningful gemstones with timeless, wearable design. Following two back surgeries, jewellery became a way to build something purposeful from my home studio.

Selene was inspired by the quiet beauty of moonlight and feminine strength. Each piece is individually handcrafted in small batches, with only a limited number released each month.

Handcrafted in Australia from solid 18ct Australian yellow gold, the Selene Necklace features a delicate 0.9 mm cable chain and our signature double-sided bezel setting, showcasing four natural GH/SI diamonds with a total diamond weight of 0.15ct. A hand chain — also called a hand chain bracelet or slave bracelet — wraps around the wrist like a bracelet and connects via a delicate chain to a ring worn on one finger. The chain drapes across the back of the hand, creating a layered look between wrist and finger. Hand chains have become one of the most popular jewellery trends in Australia and are available in gold filled, sterling silver and solid gold.

Gold plated jewellery has a very thin layer of gold (less than 0.5% of the total weight) electroplated onto a base metal. It wears off quickly — often within months of regular wear.

Gold filled jewellery — like the Selene — has a much thicker layer of real 14ct gold permanently bonded to the surface, making up at least 5% of the total weight. It looks identical to solid gold, lasts years with everyday wear including showering, and is hypoallergenic and tarnish-resistant.

Measure around your wrist with a soft tape measure, then add 1–1.5 cm for a comfortable fit. For the ring, measure the circumference of your chosen finger at its widest point. The Selene middle chain measures 10 cm as standard — if you need a different length, leave us a note at checkout and we will customise it at no extra charge.

The Selene is made from tarnish-resistant, hypoallergenic materials — gold filled and sterling silver are both water-resistant and can handle light exposure to water. For best care, remove your hand chain before swimming in chlorinated pools or the ocean and before applying perfume, sunscreen or body lotion. With proper care, your hand chain will hold its colour and finish for years.
